“Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.” ― Maria Augusta von Trapp
It’s currently midnight and I don’t know where this idea has come from in my head. All I know for certain is that I won’t be able to sleep unless I write this post now because otherwise my brain will fill up with too many ideas and I’l be tossing and turning all night.
I had the idea to shuffle play the songs saved on my Spotify and skip until one comes on that instantly brings up a memory. Maybe this is already a tag, but if it isn’t I’d love for other people to give this a go because right now my finger is hovering over the shuffle button and I’m giddy like a school girl who’s been told she’s allowed to go to the sweet shop after school.
With that, let’s start…
…actualy before I do I feel the need to say do NOT judge my music taste…thank you
Now let’s start…
- Intoxicated (Radio Edit) – Martin Solveig, GTA
ahahaha, straight away I have a huge smile on my face. This song makes me think of my younger brothers and sister dancing in the kitchen while it’s playing far too loud. When my family like a song, it will be played on full volume at unexpected times for weeks until you’re sick of it. This has become wayyy too easy for the kids since we got an Alexa. Luckily, I still love this song and it’s so easy to dance to
2. Burning Love – Elvis Presley
Lilo and Stitch is one of my all time favourite movies and if it isn’t yours, quite frankly I’m judging you. This song is a true nostaligia hit and also makes me desparatley want to be whisked away to Hawaii without a care in the world
3. Life is a Highway – Rascal Flatts
I have no shame honestly, this song is great to drive to and if you don’t believe me try it. Play this song really loud whilst on a drive you’re totally confident doing and sing along, you’re welcome. Wonder if there are gonna be anymore disney throwbacks popping up
4. Surrender – Walk the Moon
Yay I was hoping Walk the Moon would pop up! These guys are my favourite band and I love this album so much. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live 3 times and they always put thier all into performing, they are so incredible live. This song takes me back to Nick belting out one of the long notes on stage in London last year, a night where I drank way too much beer that came in huge cups and danced and sang the entire time. It makes me think of how badly I want to see them again. <+>
5. No Control – One Direction
It wouldn’t be my music without these boys making an appearance. They pretty much defined my entire teenage exsistence and their music still pops. No Control does sadly bring back memories of the final days of 1D. Zayn left after the release of Four and the infamous Carpool Karaoke saw the boys making a “music video” to this track after discussing thier upcoming hiatus. Love them all separtely, but the 15 year old in me is so desparate for them to reunite at some point…ok so is the 20 year old. Side note: I always wonder WHY they picked these photos for the album cover, seriously, look at Liam.
6. Take Me Home – Cash Cash, Bebe Rexha
No, not the One Direction album. I have such a vivid memory of this song. Back in 2015 my friend and I went to Japan for 3 weeks to stay with a family and teach their children English. This was a pretty big deal for two 17 year old girls and though we spend most our time laughing about it now, there were defiently moments of the trip we were pretty desparate to go home. I had this song playing really loudly in my earphones while walking around one of the train stations there. I don’t know if I put it on or it came on shuffle, but in the moment it was very fitting and I have a little chuckle everytime I hear it
7. Wait For It – Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton
My family and I went to see Hamilton in the West End last month and it was absolutely INCREDIBLE. Wait For It is my favourite song from the show and even though I saved the whole album as soon as we got back home, this one has definetley been played the most
8. I Wanna Dance with Somebody – Whitney Houston
ahahaha just every night in Popworld or my student’s union cheeseroom ever! This is my ultimate dancing song and I know every single little “ooh” and exactly when Whitney laughs on the track. I love this song so much, but drunk me loves it even more
9. Faded – Alan Walker
This is a great song but it also makes me really frustrated because I had an iphone game called dancing line that I got way too addicted to. My main memory of it is spending pretty much a whole night at my boyfriend’s flat stuck on the level with this song and getting so angry about how the game “isn’t fair”, that’s usually my excuse when I can’t beat a game
10. Killing in the Name – Rage Against the Machine
Ok, well I promise I have nicer songs that remind me of my boyfriend, but this song reminds me of my boyfriend. It reminds me of this song playing way too loudly in his old bedroom on his huge speakers. Pretty often only one speaker would work so you’d have to bang the other one a couple of times to get it working, then we’d just goof around to whatever song was on. There was definetely a period of time where that was quite often Rage Against the Machine and he’d be messing around and shouting the lyrics at me, it’s a very shouty song.
Yep, this was really fun! A lot of the time I spend way too long thinking about what to write for a post or waiting until I do something cool to write about, I think having a blog loses its fun when that’s the case. So if anyone is stuck for something to write, give this a go! This was such a weird selection of songs to come up, which made it even better.
Do any of these songs mean anything to you?
